Welcome to our new series, HYBERNATE WITH, where
we uncover how others wind down at the end of the
day and share their tips for a great night's sleep.

We're excited to be launching the series this Mother's Day
with mother of two daughters and journalist, Kate Waterhouse.

It’s so comfortable… and also if I ever have people popping over unexpectedly in the night or morning, I don't feel like I’m opening the door in my pyjamas!

What does your bedtime routine look like?

Our nightly routine consists of eating early with the kids… then after they go to bed, my husband and I have showers, get into our PJs, relax on the couch with a glass of wine and catch up on the day and then usually we watch Netflix before heading to bed around 10:30pm.

How has motherhood affected your attitude to sleep?

Motherhood has definitely affected my attitude to sleep… I used to be able to stay up late but now if I’m not in bed before 11pm I really stress out as I know my kids are waking me up early and there is no off day - as parents, you are up early 365 days a year. I don’t function well without sleep.

Any useful tips to achieve good quality sleep?

I try not to do any work past 8pm … if I keep sending emails past that time , I continue to think about work all through the night and I never have a good night's sleep.

I also always put my phone away after 9pm so I don't have the opportunity to check messages or social media. And I never take my phone to my bedroom, it charges in the kitchen always. No phone screen time before bed really helps me to have a better night's sleep.

Are there any sleep rituals or aids that you can’t live without?

I know if I have had a busy day with lots on my mind, I love a cup of chamomile tea and watching a classic movie or reading a great book - that always helps me get to sleep better.

What’s your favourite Hybernate sleepwear item?

My favourite Hybernate sleepwear are the Jogger pants and Raglan top. It’s so comfortable… and also if I ever have people popping over unexpectedly in the night or morning, I don't feel like I’m opening the door in my pyjamas!
