This month, we were delighted to sit with New York Times bestselling author Sally Hepworth to talk all things sleep. Sally has written seven novels and just released her most recent book The Younger Wife. She is proud of her incredible ability to sleep anywhere, anytime, and has some practical advice for self care which we can all relate to.

"That moment when my eyes close and no one needs anything from me is my favourite moment of the day."

What does self care involve for you?

It varies widely. Sometimes it involves washing off my make up before bed. Other times it involves yoga, a hot bath and a fifteen-step skin care routine. It’s rarely anything in between. I tend to operate in extremes in this way, but it all evens out.

What does your bedtime routine look like?

Bedtime looks like me falling face first into my bed, usually with a child or two beside me (and occasionally, a dog). But man, that moment when my eyes close and no one needs anything from me is my favourite moment of the day.

Any tips for achieving great quality sleep?

I am blessed with the ability to sleep on demand, at any time, wherever I am. (My friends tell me I once fell asleep while standing up on a train in Paris, holding onto the handrail. I never let go, which is among my proudest achievements in life). That said, there are a few things that I swear by when it comes to sleep. A shower, good sheets and a few pages of a book … I’m out.

Are there any sleep rituals or aids that you can’t live without?

Given the train example above, it’s clear that I can live without sleep rituals. I will say that being very tired helps a lot.

What’s your favourite Hybernate sleepwear item?

Don’t make me choose! I love the new shorts and tank, but I also have a soft spot for my pink harem pants.
